LAID OFF?  Start your own Business.

Sounds Crazy Right… not to some experts… According to an article published on our world wide web by ABC news in the small business section last year, more and more people are taking their bad economy start a business rent office by the hourseverance pay or savings and starting a business doing something they have always wanted to do.  According to the articles author Ron Scherer:

“Even as more and more large companies hand out pink slips, budding do-it-yourselfers are starting new businesses – some of them far different from the jobs they used to hold.”

I know it sounds crazy, but Google “laid off start your own business” and you will see.  Here are some tips to help you decide if starting your own business is right for you.

  1. Choose a business you are passionate about.  Use the skills and resources you have at hand.

  3. Take your business for a test drive.  Try your idea out on people you know and people you don’t know.

Look at the Ant...

Many times in business we get overwhelmed at the mountains we must climb to get our work done.  Especially as a small  business owner, we are often the chief cook and bottle washer.
So what can we learn from the Ant?

If you have ever had one of those cool ant farms, think about what you saw.  You fill it with sand, dump in a bunch of ants and a week later, those little buggers have built a complex system of tunnels all over the place.

If you were to tell those ants, build a city in this sand, they would probably say, are you crazy, that’s too much for me… but no...watch what they do.  Each little hard working ant picks up one piece of sand and takes it to the other side of the plastic box, then goes back and gets another, and another, and another.  When they are all done, surprise, they have built a colony.
If we can break down our tasks in to little grains of sand, and concentrate on getting that one simple task done before we move to the next, surprise, we will have our big project done, one grain at a time.

Here’s a suggestion, put a picture of an ant on your computer as a background to remind you to get your project done, one grain at a time.
